Every Wednesday at Tupelo Children’s Mansion Academy the juniors and seniors have a Life Skills class.
So far this year, the students have discussed workplace etiquette, how to dress professionally, how to write cover letters and resumes, and how to get along with coworkers and handle different personalities.
Currently, the class is learning about personal money management including checking and savings accounts, budgeting, and credit cards.
The class has been blessed by two local businessmen with off campus trips to Midas to learn about car maintenance and to the Renasant Center for Ideas where they were taught various skills for the workplace.
Other topics to be covered in the future include income tax, food preparation and nutrition, and basic skills for taking care of a home.
The Life Skills class works hand in hand with a computer class where the students learn to type and to use all complements of Microsoft Office and a speaking program called The Amazing Shake.
Special thanks to Jennifer Lawrence, TCM Director of Education, for coordinating our Life Skills program.
