There are moments in life that catch us completely off guard. An unexpected diagnosis. A closed door. A sudden loss. A change of plans we never saw coming.

We may be surprised, but God never is.

Before we knew there was a need, He already knew the answer. Before we reached the crossroads, He had already seen the destination. The God who declares “the end from the beginning” is never caught off guard by our circumstances.

Sometimes we imagine that God is reacting to events as they unfold, much like we do. But Scripture paints a very different picture. God is never scrambling for a solution or adjusting His plans because of an unexpected turn. Nothing has ever occurred to Him. Nothing has ever taken Him by surprise. What seems sudden to us has always been fully known to Him.

That truth becomes especially important when life takes a turn we do not understand.

We see only the moment we are standing in. God sees the whole journey. We see the closed door. He sees where another path will lead. We see the delay. He sees what is being accomplished in the waiting. We see what has changed. He sees what remains ahead.

Our limited view may leave us with questions, but God’s complete view gives us a reason to trust.

Isaiah reminds us of the vast difference between God’s perspective and ours:

“Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done…”

— Isaiah 46:10 (NKJV)

There is tremendous comfort in knowing that God was already present in our tomorrow before we ever arrived there.

He knew about the phone call before the phone rang.

He knew about the closed door before we reached it.

He knew about the need before we ever prayed about it.

And He knew the grace, strength, wisdom, and provision we would need to walk through it.

This does not mean we will always understand what God is doing. Faith does not require us to have all the answers. It simply gives us confidence in the One who does.

Looking back, we can often recognize His hand in places where we could not see it at the time. What once seemed like an unexpected detour may have redirected us. What felt like a delay may have protected us. What appeared to be an ending may have eventually opened the way to a new beginning.

That truth doesn’t answer every question we have about life, but it gives us a solid place to stand. We may not understand every circumstance, but we can trust the One who does.

So whatever lies ahead, we do not have to face it as though God is discovering it alongside us. He is already there.

What surprises us never surprises Him. The God who already knows the end is faithfully leading us every step of the way.
